Students can easily work above grade level in reading and math, and in a few cases some students have gone to a middle school or high school for what they need. Happening at Jonathan Elementary Safe Return to Learn Update: December 23 As we head into winter break, I know you have been anxiously awaiting updates on what school will look like for our students when we return in January. As was the case when we started the school year, our district’s top priorities continue to be health, safety, and quality instruction. While we will be sharing more specifics in early January, I wanted you to know broadly what our district’s plan is. We continue to work closely with our local and state partners to make sure we are using the best data available to make decisions. While we lay out a plan for a return to in-person learning, it’s important to understand that this may change based on the guidance of our local public health officials. As we move into winter break, it is more important than ever that we do everything we can to slow the spread of the virus so we can make sure we keep our students in-person once they return. Resources Safe Return to Learn Update Like you, we watched this afternoon’s news conference with Governor Walz anxious to learn about any changes to guidance about when and how our students might return to in-person learning in the weeks ahead. We were already hard at work on plans to begin bringing back smaller groups of students for in-person support in January. We will now adjust those plans to reflect the new guidance. Read Full Article about Safe Return to Learn Update Distance Learning Extended: what to expect in January The question on everyone’s mind is when is it safe to bring our students back for in-person learning. It’s something my entire team has been wrestling with since we made the decision to shift our model to distance learning. The numbers are still very, very high. We believe based on the current public health data that we would again quickly find ourselves in the same situation as last month, concerned about staffing and other impacts due to positive cases and quarantines. Guidance from our Regional Support Team, which includes representatives from the MN Departments of Education and Health, indicates we should see a consistent downward trend in data before we make a shift. Given the available data, we will continue in distance learning upon return from winter break. They teach by guiding students towards mastery of content and instilling 21st century skills. Students have access to a variety of resources and tools, and teachers connect student learning beyond the classroom. Purposeful Learning Engagement with Learning Tools Engagement with Learning Tools With teachers as facilitators, students use a variety of educational tools and resources to maximize learning. While technology will never replace the role of the teacher, it will shape the future careers of our students. Our goal is to prepare students for success beyond high school, wherever their aspirations take them. Purposeful Learning Collaborative Environment Collaborative Environment Most living and working environments have changed dramatically over the last several decades. Design of spaces and their furnishings reflect purpose: how we live, how we work, and how we learn. We are redefining learning spaces with a variety of furniture, layouts and technology that facilitate collaboration, creativity, comfort, and safety.
